UMD Wireless Engineering Services

Unique Micro Designís (UMD) RF Wireless Engineering Services are a collection of professional and support services which can be used to design, install and support wireless infrastructure, including RF Wireless Warehousing, Retail outlets, Education and Healthcare campusís, and Point to Point network bridging.

We use our engineering information and communications technology (ICT) solutions skills to:

  • Design RF systems
  • Determine network interfacing requirements (including security considerations)
  • Conduct RF site surveys
  • Pre-configure Radio terminals and Wireless Access Points
  • Conduct and manage installations
  • Commission sites, and
  • Provide ongoing after sales support.
  • These services are designed to:

Enable our Partners and Customers to implement wireless systems and network infrastructure, without needing comprehensive in-house expertise

Minimise the risk associated with wireless infrastructure and ensure adequate radio coverageUMD Sells, Supports and Installs Cisco, Motorola (Symbol) and Legacy Intermec Access Points and Wireless Switch Technology.

Site Surveys

Site Surveys encompass physical site visits to develop an understanding of the Customerís physical environment. Consideration is given to layouts, equipment mountings, cable installations and other elements that will impact on the implementation of the solution. This service may be undertaken if a solution has already been sold but the implementation process is yet to be defined or if a more in-depth survey is not required.

Radio Frequency Site Surveys

The RF Site Survey has become an essential procedure for developing an effective wireless network solution and ensuring effective radio coverage. Often, the site survey is used as a pre-sales tool and provides solution providers with hardware and installation information for a relatively low cost.

UMD has deployed Radio Frequency networks in a range of environments. Some of these include:

  • Warehousing
  • Retail
  • Manufacturing
  • Transportation
  • Health Care

With the increased need for "real time" data capture and mobility across these environments, UMD has focused on providing wireless technologies and solutions appropriate to customer specific applications. UMD is a leader in the implementation of these technologies.

UMD is able to provide solutions to cover all the leading 802.11a/b/g, WiFi compliant systems including Intermec, Cisco and Motorola (Symbol Technologies). Our training, experience and product knowledge, ensure that all wireless applications including data capture, VOIP and point-to-point links have the most appropriate wireless hardware selected when surveying.

Our site survey process uses the latest diagnostic tools and hardware to ensure the required radio coverage is achieved, taking into account factors such as throughput, redundancy, equipment type and environmental challenges. The site survey report will provide strategic mounting points for locations of wireless hardware including placement / selection of antennas and access points, and also takes into consideration data and power management issues.

Desktop Radio Frequency Site Surveys

In some circumstances, it is not always possible to conduct a physical site survey, such as construction of new buildings. In other cases, it may not be warranted to conduct an in-depth survey. In such cases we can conduct a Desktop RF Site-Survey. This consists of obtaining, where possible, details of: site drawings, construction material of building, network and power cable diagrams, and providing an estimate of the hardware and professional services required to implement a wireless solution.

Systems Analysis

Systems Analysis utilises a variety of analytical tools, design methods and evaluative techniques to determine process requirement and appropriate software solutions. Also, an appreciation of the incumbent software environment is gained, which will assist in the investigation and implementation of the chosen solution.

Network Auditing

Our Network Auditing Service Team perform audits which review and clarify the architectural issues and features of the incumbent network in order to successfully optimise and integrate the two networks. The audit process also highlights security issues which can be addressed and included in the final solution.
