The Advantech ADAM-5000 Series is a compact and powerful ethernet controller for direct connection to multiple I/O modules by multiple and concurrent accessing host PC's. The ADAM-5000L/TCP and ADAM5000/TCP are able to operate for upto 100m from the nearest upstream switch and allow for remote configuration as well as access over this distance, or upto 1.2Km using the RS-485 port.

With a wide selection of I/O modules available for use with the ADAM-5000 this controller allows for the use of a large mix and variety of Serial, Analog and Digital Inputs and Outputs, as well as a storage option.

By adopting a 32-bit RISC CPU, the ADAM-5000 Series has greatly advanced data processing abilities for the user, especially for network communications. There is a standard RJ-45 modular jack Ethernet port on the ADAM-5000 CPU board, and I/O modules field signals would be able to link with the Ethernet directly without assistance from other hardware devices such as converters or data gateways. Through an Ethernet network, your DA&C systems, computer workstations, and higher-level enterprise MIS servers can access plant- floor data. Such data can be used in system supervising, product scheduling, statistical quality control, and more.

Modbus/TCP is one of the most popular standards for industrial Ethernet networks, following this communication protocol, the ADAM-5000 Series is easy to integrate with any HMI software packages or user-developed applications that support Modbus. Users do not have to prepare a specific driver for the ADAM-5000 Series when they install the DA&C system with their own operating application. Moreover, the ADAM-5000 Series works as a Modbus data server. It allows eight PCs or tasks to access its current data simultaneously from anywhere: LAN, Intranet, or Internet.
